Bin Ends Seed
Don’t forget to visit my Bin Ends section of the shop. We have now entered some Cornell Cauliflower seed which is no longer available. We have also added some Ramco Cabbage which is also no longer available as is Cucumber Naomi, a favourite with many growers. Once these have been sold that’s the la
st of them. Buy them now and put the packets in a jam jar with a sealed lid and place it in the bottom of your fridge, the seed should be viable for a couple of years.
- These Ramco Cabbages, grown by Chris Hewlett were top quality and each won weighed in at 36lb. We will now have to see what it’s replacement is going to be like.

Good to see that you are back on the blog, my seeds arrived on Friday. What do you know about the trial pea? e.g. any resistance to mildew? I have tried and failed to get half decent peas even for Shrewsbury and even John Branham can’t defeat the mildew down our way once we get well into August
The Pea is called Alexandra and in my opinion, as well as a few other top pea growers such as Ian Simpson, that it’s nowhere near the same league as Show Perfection. It is supposed to have some resistance to mildew which has to be a plus point and I quote from the Thompson and Morgan catalogue – ‘Specifically bred for its resistance to downy and powdery mildew’.
I grew a few of them last year in large tubs next to some Show Perfection and there didn’t appear to be any vigour in it. I won’t be growing it again.
Thanks Medwyn, I tried a variety called Dorian last year, just about got two sets of six for vilage show from ten plants, I didn’t really give them much attention but I am not convined they are anything special but at least they didn’t succumb to mildew.
