Medwyn Williams

Hello. I'm Medwyn Williams – eleven times Gold medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show, Past Chairman of the Royal Horticultural Society Fruit Vegetable and Herb Committee and President of the National Vegetable Society.

Chelsea Flower Show

I had my annual visit to Chelsea on Monday which is officially Press day and the day that all the Royal family seem to attend at around five o’clock onwards. It really is a joy to be able to get to the show on this particular day as there are no crowds at all and you are able to walk around and see all the exhibits at leisure and while they are at their very best.  There was only one vegetable display of note which was staged by the Robinsons family from Lancashire and was awarded a Silver Gilt Medal. These are a few pictures that caught my eye –

An exhibit which to me was a little OTT. It certainly looked fantastic with over 50,000 orchid blooms and was awarded a Gold.

  1. Excellent that you can go on Monday and have a proper look around. I’ve been to Chelsea once, about 10 years ago. Never again. Even on the supposed quieter Tuesday as an RHS member at the time it was absolutely manic. You were just part of a constantly moving mass and couldn’t stop and view the exhibits. They were just a blur as you sped past. And as for those artsy fartsy gardens….don’t get me started!

  2. I was there on the Tuesday, it was OK getting around the marquee, you could see everything and stop to have a good look. Outside where the gardens are is another matter, it was pretty frantic out there. That didn’t bother me because most of the gardens are a bit far out and not really what a keep plantsman would want. At least in the marquee I could look at all the plants I like.
