It’s always a great joy to be invited to judge the Tullamore show in Irelnad which ios always held on the second Sunday of August. It a typical countyb Agricultural show with a horticultural tent as well as cooking knitting etc. Although only a one day show the attendance is a phenominal 60,000 people and formthe effort thta’s put in by all concerned it should definately be a two day show.  This was my fifteenth year at the show and I have to say that the standard has got better and better over the years, long may it continue. Here are a few shots of the winners. The winning collection by Michael Walton from Sligo was really top class, particulallry his root vegetables.

Last year, 12 year old Dan Bonner from Falmore Dungloe Co Donegal came second in the class for a tray of 3 kinds of vegetables two of each kind and he vowed to me that he would be back this year for the Red Card. True to his word he managed to win with Sweet Candle carrots, Gladiator parsnip and Concept Cauliflower. How lovely it is to see youngsters like Dan with such a passion for this fantastic hobby, long may it last.

He is undoubtedly an excellent tap root grower with both the New Red Intermediate long carrot and the Panorama parsnip being as good as any I’m likely to see this year. His other three vegetables were Celery Morning Star, Cedrico tomatoes and Sherine Potatoes.
